Derek Jarman’s visually rich portrayal of the life of the Italian master is the first artist bio-pic in our On the Origin of Art Films program. It is also a companion to our Hound In the Hunt exhibition – which asks whether the likes of Vermeer and Caravaggio used optical aids in the creation of their masterworks.

The film features stunning tableaux vivants of some of Caravaggio’s most celebrated paintings, as well as performances by Sean Bean, Tilda Swinton, and Nigel Terry.
