A documentary about the fantasy world of Mark Hogancamp. After being severely beaten and falling into coma, Mark is left with brain damage and builds a miniature World War II-era town in his backyard called Marwencol.

He fills the town with a huge cast of dolls representing his family, friends and even his attackers, and photographs the town’s drama and violence. When Marwencol and the photographs (essentially a form of therapy for Mark) are discovered and an exhibition is held in New York, the documentary asks us to rethink the very definition of art itself.
