Party at Mona

Planning a function? We’ve got lots of places for them—in the museum, around the museum, off-site in the city, on boats, you name it.

  • Steel tables, leather benches, wood ceiling of the Wine Bar

    Moorilla Wine Bar

Wine and dine guests in the relaxed, elegant environs of our wine bar. You can stay inside, spill out onto the deck, peer into the inner workings of the winery (there are windows straight into the barrel room), or catch some rays on the nearby lawns.

  • Gold chairs, glass tables and plush carpet of the Source awaiting diners

    The Source Restaurant

High above it all, the Source takes its name from a painting by Australian modernist John Olsen, which you can see on the foyer ceiling. There's a balcony—complete with living moss and herb tables—brilliant views of the River Derwent, and a lovely outlook over the museum grounds.

    Faro Bar + Restaurant

A light-filled space suspended over the river, Faro is a bit of an antidote to the darker parts of the museum. Soaring ceilings, highly convenient cocktail bar, multiple works from American light artist James Turrell (including one smack-dab in the middle of the restaurant). Standard stuff.

  • Birds eye view of people in the Void with large sandstone walls

    The Void

Seventeen metres underground, the Void is a spiffy place to impress your mates. It’s home to a Triassic sandstone wall from the museum’s excavation, various artworks and one of the best cocktail bars in the state. We can host 250 of your nearest and dearest for a cocktail party.

  • A long table of diners shaped like a snake under a vast wall of images that come together to form the image of a snake

    The Nolan gallery

If the Void isn’t big enough, you can add the Nolan gallery. This space is named for Australian modernist master Sidney Nolan, creator of Snake, which is one of our most loved artworks. There’s other art here, too, from the likes of Jannis Kounellis, Anselm Kiefer and Gregory Barsamian (Wim Delvoye’s shit machine is just around the corner). Plenty of room to do stuff, too.

    Functions on our ferry

We’ve got two snazzy camouflaged catamarans for any river-cruising function-fancies that take you. Both boats have bars, two levels, indoor and outdoor areas, and animals to sit on. Speccy views and the freedom to roam the river come with the territory. Plenty of food and bev options, too.
